Virtual Nature Walk- Insects

Square

“I don’t always have time to go outside and really observe nature so why don’t I bring nature to me?”

The thought struck me while at the library a couple weeks ago, and I decided that the only way I was going to be able to study nature, and really capture the raw details, was getting some pictures and studying them (or bring nature in to me, but since I like bugs from afar, that will not happen!) I then checked out two big books on bugs and got to work honing my skills.

Here are a few samples of what I’ve been doing:

I’ll be doing a series of categories all about nature for the next few months starting with bugs and the next subject will be YOUR CHOICE! That’s right – I’m letting you decide.

The category with the most votes will be next! Here they are:

  • Birds
  • Trees
  • Flowers
  • Fish

Ok! Leave your votes in the comments below and the winning category will be announced in about a week!

⇒Art Tip For Today⇐

Get outside! With the spring weather rolling in its the perfect time to grab your sketching stuff, water, and a snack and sit and enjoy nature. Working with reference pictures is an OK substitute, but observing the real thing makes it so much more authentic. (Fresh air is also a plus if you’re like me and enjoy sitting at your drawing table for most of your pieces…)

As always, thanks for taking the time to check out my work!

Your Illustrator Friend,

~Sandra

  1. As much as I love flowers, birds would be my choice! They sing beautiful songs, have gorgeous colors and fly!

  2. I choose flowers because they are blooming. “Bloom where you are planted!”
